Starting from scratch on Pinterest? Read this.

Hey Reader,

If you’re starting fresh with a new Pinterest account (or rebuilding one that hasn’t been working), you don’t need to overthink it.

There are five core parts of your Pinterest profile that matter most when it comes to strategy—and getting these right sets the stage for long-term growth:

1. Display Name

This is searchable, which means you want to include your name or brand + one keyword phrase about what you do.

Example: Heather | Heather Farris | Organic Pinning & Marketing Educator

The key here is to include a main keyword you want to be known for in your industry that people will search for and your name will come up in the search bar results.

2. Bio

Your bio should make it instantly clear who you help and what they’ll find from you while using long-tail keywords your audience might be searching for.

You get 500 characters -- make them count. Avoid putting hashtags or links in the bio section.

3. Boards

Boards act like content categories. Think of them as the pillars of your content strategy, and make sure every board has a clear focus, title, and optimized description.

Make sure to fully fill out the 500 character description for the board and avoid putting hashtags and links here as well.

4. Profile Banner

This adds personality and professionalism. Use it to visually showcase what your brand is about, highlight key offers, or set the tone for your account.

This is the banner at the top of your profile. It behaves like a billboard for your business so people who hit your profile can very quickly see what you do and offer.

5. Board Covers (optional)

Totally not required but adding clean, branded covers can improve user experience and make your profile feel more cohesive and intentional.

I like to use board covers in most niches because they offer a glimpse at what the profile is about. without having to wonder what is beyond the ellipses.

I also have another reason for using board covers... they tend to perform exceedingly well for standalone Pins that stop the scroll.

Right now I have 2 board covers as top Pins for engagement in the last 30 days. These little things perform because they're abnormal. Sometimes less is more.

If you’re looking for a walkthrough to get everything set up properly (with strategy in mind), I’ve got you covered.

Here’s my step-by-step Pinterest setup guide that breaks it all down in plain language.

Whether you’re brand new or just rebuilding from scratch, this guide will help you do it the right way—so your content can actually be found.

Happy pinning,

Heather

Hi Reader, Quick heads up: Pinterest Trends looks very different now. The entire interface was updated, and if you haven’t opened it recently, it can feel a little disorienting at first glance. So I recorded a full tutorial walking through: what’s actually new (and what isn’t), how the Trends Overview works now, how to read trends by outbound clicks, saves, and engagement, where to find related queries, products, and audience data, and how Search Trends still fits into your workflow. One...

Hey Reader, January always comes with this weird mix of pressure and possibility. Everyone is telling you to “start fresh,” “go all in,” or “fix everything you didn’t do last year.” And honestly, most of that just creates noise. So instead of doing that, I sat down and asked myself a much simpler question: If a friend came to me today and said, “I want to use Pinterest in 2026, but I don’t want to overcomplicate it,” what would I actually tell them? Not what I’d teach in a workshop. Not what...

Hey Reader, Pinterest just dropped their 2026 trend predictions — and I’ve got thoughts. I broke it all down for you in this week’s video:Pinterest Predicts 2026: What You Need to Know If you create content, sell products, or run a business… this is your roadmap to what is coming to the platform in 2026. Over 88% of their predictions come true so I would pay attention to this. More strategy coming soon. I don't know about you but I'm as burnt as that turkey Cousin Catherine brought to...
