Pinterest just dropped an AI update—here’s what it means for you

Hello Reader,

Pinterest just announced a major update: they’re rolling out AI-generated content labels across the platform.

This means if you're using AI tools like DALL·E or Midjourney to create Pin images (or even AI-assisted designs in tools like Canva), Pinterest will start labeling those images as AI-generated.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • This is part of Pinterest’s effort to build trust and transparency as AI content becomes more common.
  • Pinterest's own AI labeling technology will automatically flag content created with certain tools starting this year. Even if you have stripped the AI metadata off of your Pins. Pinterest is instituting technology to find that content and label it.
  • This change is not about penalizing AI content, but about making it clear to users when a Pin has been AI-generated.

Here's what it looks like. On the Pin level you'll be able to click the 3 dots and choose "see fewer AI (topic) Pins" on your menu.

So—how should you respond?

✅ If you’re using AI tools in your Pin creation process, start thinking about how you might be impacted and how your GenAI images actually benefit the end user.
✅ If you’re using tools like Canva or Adobe with AI image generation, keep an eye out for updates.
✅ And if you're in my membership, don’t worry—we can talk about it on our Office Hours calls this month.

As Pinterest evolves, so do we. My job is to stay ahead of changes like this so you can keep showing up confidently and effectively.

To learn more about the change I posted a Reel on this today.

Happy pinning,
Heather
