Don’t pin your Substack article like this


Hi Reader,

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make when they try to use Pinterest for their Substack is this:

They treat the article title like it has to become the Pin title.

And sometimes that works.

But a lot of the time? It doesn’t.

Because Substack titles are often written for people who already know you. They can be more personal, clever, reflective, editorial, or opinion-based.

Pinterest titles need to work a little differently.

They need to make sense to someone who has no context for you, your work, your worldview, or why they should care yet.

That’s the shift.

Your Substack article is the source material.

Your Pin is the entry point.

So instead of asking, “How do I turn this article title into a Pin?” ask:

What would someone be searching for, struggling with, or wanting when this article becomes useful to them?

For example, if your Substack article is called:

“What I Learned After Burning Down My Content Calendar”

That might be a great article title.

But on Pinterest, stronger Pin angles might be:

  1. Why Your Content Calendar Feels Impossible to Stick To
  2. How to Create a Content Plan You’ll Actually Use
  3. Content Planning Mistakes That Make Marketing Harder
  4. A Better Way to Plan Content When You’re Tired of Posting Just to Post

Same article with different entry points.

And that’s where Pinterest starts to get interesting. You’re not creating more content from scratch.

You’re translating the content you already made into angles that meet people where they are.

And next time you publish a Substack article, don’t stop at one Pin.

Look for the hidden angles inside it. That’s where the good stuff usually is.
