You created a Pinterest account. Now what?

Hello Reader,

So you created a Pinterest business account.

And now you’re staring at an empty profile wondering what exactly you’re supposed to do with it.

This is usually the point where people start doing a bunch of random Pinterest tasks.

Creating 30 boards.

Following people.

Making Pins because someone told them they should post every day.

Trying to figure out how many Pins they’re “supposed” to publish.

Before you do any of that, I want you to figure out one thing:

What is Pinterest supposed to do for your business?

Pinterest isn’t the destination.

It’s the vehicle that moves someone from a Pin into the rest of your marketing ecosystem.

That could look like:

Pinterest → blog post → email list → product

Pinterest → podcast → email list

Pinterest → YouTube video → offer

Pinterest → product page

The path depends on your business.

Once you understand that, it becomes much easier to figure out which keywords, boards and Pins you actually need.

In my newest YouTube video, I walk through exactly how I would build a Pinterest account from zero today, including:

  • what to finish on your profile first
  • how to choose your first 5–10 topics
  • how those topics become boards
  • how to decide which existing content you should create Pins for first
  • why one URL can become several completely different Pins
  • what I would ignore completely as a beginner
  • and a simple 30-day Pinterest setup plan

And one important thing I talk about near the end:

I would not obsess over your analytics during your first 90 days.

Pinterest needs time to understand your topics, index your content and gather enough information for the data to actually tell you something useful.

If you’re starting a Pinterest account, restarting one, or you’ve been randomly doing Pinterest tasks without much of a plan, start here.

Hi Reader, If you use Amazon + Pinterest, you’ll want to know about this. You can connect your Amazon storefront to Pinterest and claim it so your store can show directly on your Pinterest profile. I made a quick tutorial showing you exactly how to set it up. This is for ecommerce shops who are selling on Amazon and anyone using Amazon affiliate links. Hi Reader, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much pressure there is to show up everywhere. Instagram. YouTube. Pinterest. LinkedIn. Email. Blogging. But being on more platforms doesn’t automatically mean better marketing. What matters is choosing the places that actually make sense for your business, your audience, and the way you want to create content. That’s what I talked about in today’s YouTube video: How to Choose Which Content Platforms Are Worth Your Time. Watch the video here...

Hello Reader, Be honest: you’ve judged a Pin in half a second before. You’re scrolling, you see a design, and your brain immediately decides one of three things: “Wait, I need this.” “Cute, but no.” “What am I even looking at?” And that tiny little split-second decision is exactly why Pin design matters. Not because your Pins need to be the most beautiful thing anyone has ever seen on the internet. They don’t. But they do need to do their job quickly. A good Pin should help someone...
