Pinterest Board Best Practices & an Update From Heather

Hi Reader,

If you watched my original Pinterest board strategy video—this is your must-see update.

Pinterest dropped new guidance on how to actually create standout boards—and it’s more strategic than ever.

According to Pinterest, boards are now being treated like mini landing pages.

That means:

  • Each board should serve a specific audience segment.
  • They should be organized with intention.
  • And every pin on the board should be relevant to the board’s purpose.

Translation? Your boards could be holding you back from discoverability—and even hurting your reach.

Here’s what to do now:

🔹 Build boards with buyer intent
Think about funnel stages. Do you have boards that serve people at the awareness, consideration, and purchase stages? If not, it’s time to rethink what you’re pinning—and who you’re pinning for.

🔹 Nail your visual theme
Your pins should feel cohesive in style, subject, and layout.

🔹 Curate pins intentionally
Yes, you can repin from others—but make sure every pin matches your board’s title, description, and keyword theme. This is about curation, not chaos.

🔹 Pay attention to pin count
This is the big one. Pinterest now recommends keeping boards between 20–100 pins. Too many pins = overwhelm = people bounce. If you want to use sections, optimize them like mini pages with their own keywords.

🎯 This isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. You don’t have to go back and fix thousands of pins overnight. Start with new versions of important boards and use these tips moving forward.

Heather’s Quick Wins:
✔️ Audit and update your old boards
✔️ Use sections sparingly (only when they help the user)
✔️ Avoid keyword stuffing—write clear, helpful descriptions

These are the same principles I teach inside Pin Profit Academy—and they work.

An Update From Heather:

Less than a week ago we finalized our move to The Netherlands. Not much should change from me going forward because I'm 6 hours ahead of the Eastern US timezone. I plan to maintain some US hours. I have already adjusted my calendar and availability to reflect what I think I can manage for now. If you'd like to follow our updates with our move I've been sharing on Instagram.
